I felt honored that my interviewee trusted their story with me. Our discussion was very open and I came to better understand all the potential emotions and considerations when facing the reality of having to leave your home country. It also helped me deeply reflect on how my life has been shaped by my grandparents' decisions to uproot their lives during the Great Migration.
My interviewee's experiences related our readings and class discussions about integration and how that can vary depending on age, gender, race/ethnicity. For me, the interview highlighted how intersectional migration-related issues are and encouraged me to consider migration more in my human right studies.
